چکیده

Raindrop size distributions are often assumed to follow a three-parameter gamma distribution. Since rain intensity retrieval from radar observations is an underdetermined problem, there is great interest in finding physical correlations between the parameters of the gamma distribution. One of the more common approaches is to measure naturally occurring drop size distributions (DSDs) using a disdrometer and to find DSD parameters by fitting a gamma distribution to these observations. Often the method of moments is used to retrieve the parameters of a gamma distribution from disdrometer observations. In this work the effect of the method of moments and data filtering on the relation between the parameters of the DSD is investigated, namely, the shape and the slope parameters. For this study the disdrometer observations were simulated. In these simulations the gamma distribution parameters Nw, D0, and were randomly selected from a wide range of values that are found in rainfall. Then, using simulated disdrometer measurements, DSD parameters were estimated using the method of moments. It is shown that the statistical errors associated with data filtering of disdrometer measurements might produce a spurious relation between and parameters. It is also shown that three independent disdrometer measurements can be used to verify the existence of such a relation.

Stochastic Comparisons of Probability Distribution Functions with Experimental Data in a Liquid-Liquid Extraction Column for Determination of Drop Size Distributions

The droplet size distribution in the column is usually represented as the average volume to surface area, known as the Sauter mean drop diameter. It is a key variable in the extraction column design. A study of the drop size distribution and Sauter-mean drop diameter for a liquid-liquid extraction column has been presented for a range of operating conditions and three different liquid-liquid sy...

New laboratory scale Grinding method to predict energy and the feed grindability of mill of Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex

One of the factors which are usually difficult to be measured in mills is the grindability and distribution of feed under real situation and in a short time. In the condition of achieving a fast and convenient way to determine these parameters, the proper relationship between energy, hardness and particle size distribution can be obtained. Feed hardness is one of the most important factors in g...

The Study of Corresponding Effects of anionic surfactant concentration and solute on Drop Size in a Mixer-Settler Extractor and Propose an Empirical Model

Drop size distribution in a mixer-settler is an essential design parameter, as obtaining drop size distribution will result in optimum performance of equipment. In this paper for obtaining drop size, several experiments have been performed with a single stage horizontal mixer-settler. A video technique has been used in order to measure the drop size in the mixer-settler with the help of a digit...

Dispersion Parameters and Effect of Impeller Speed, Holdup and Volume Fraction of Dispersed Phase on Separation Efficiency, Mass Transfer Coefficient of Dispersed Phase and Distribution Coefficient on Mixer-Settler Set

An experimental study has been conducted on the hydrodynamics of a stage mixer-settler to obtain an appropriate design. In this paper several tests was performed to investigate full factorial design of experiments. Since each test was repeated seven times, the repeatability of the test was confirmed (P=1 bar and T=25 °C). Sauter diameter was determined by photographing both the mix...
